Decision on Lokayukta draft after budget: CM
GOANEWS DESK, PANAJI | 16 March 2013 19:02 ISTChief minister Manohar Parrikar has assured to go through the new draft of Lokayukta bill, on the lines of Uttarakhand bill, presented to him by Aam Aadmi Party.
After the swearing in ceremony of Lokayukta, Parrikar confirmed that he had received the draft as promised by Adv Prashant Bhushan.
“I will go through it only after presenting the budget”, said the chief minister.
He will present his budget on Monday, 18 March.
The Assembly session however would go on for 28 days, till April end.
Parrikar has promised to amend the Lokayukta act, based on the AAP draft, in this Assembly session, beginning from Monday.
“I received the draft little late”, he said, while stating that even he had sent an email to Adv Bhushan to remind him about the draft.
While Parrikar had told Adv Bhushan to send the draft by 15 March, the AAP leader had agreed to send it by 5 March.
It however actually reached Goa on 11 March.
Meanwhile, the controversial Lokayukta amendment bill passed in the last Assembly session is still awaiting assent from the Governor.
Several opposition parties as well as civil society have urged the Governor not to give assent to the controversial amendment bill.
The India Against Corruption had instead demanded to fulfil the election promise of the BJP to amend the act on the lines of Uttarakhand Lokayukta act.
