Bhushan sends new Lokayukta draft for Goa Govt
GOANEWS DESK, PANAJI | 12 March 2013 15:43 ISTEminent Supreme Court lawyer and Aam Aadmi Party leader Adv Prashant Bhushan has sent a draft of amendments to the Lokayukta Act, on the lines of Uttarakhanda Lokayukta Act, as promised to chief minister Manohar Parrikar last month.
The local AAP leaders are now waiting for CM’s appointment to hand him over the draft.
Parrikar has assured to get the Lokayukta Act amended further, as per his election promise, on the lines of Uttarakhand act.
Following controversy over the amendments in Lokayukta act last month by the government, Parrikar had promised Adv Bhushan on 10 February, when they met, to amend the act further as per their demand.
Parrikar had agreed to get all the amendments passed in the session, beginning on 18 March, provided the draft reaches him by 15 March.
Meanwhile, the amendment bill passed by the Assembly last month has already been sent to the Governor for his assent.
India Against Corruption as well as several other political parties including the Congress and AAP have requested the governor not to give assent to the controversial clauses passed by the Assembly.
Meanwhile, Goa government has appointed Justice B Sudarshan Reddy as the Lokayukta but has still not taken charge.
On the other hand, BJP supporter Dr Shekhar Salkar has approached the high court, stating that the government has still not appointed Lokayukta in Goa.
