Mining halt may lead to suicides: Cabral

A BJP legislator in Goa today said if the mining halt continued in the state, then he feared that people might resort to suicides.

This is just the first month of mining halt.

If this continues further, we will have people committing suicide,” Sanvordem BJP MLA Nilesh Cabral told reporters.

He said the halt on mining activity has hit his constituency and people have lost their livelihood.

The Supreme Court in its recent verdict had ordered halt in the extraction and transportation of ore in Goa in wake of Justice M B Shah Commission’s findings about illegal mining in the state.

A state based NGO, Goa Foundation, had moved the apex court claiming that all the mines in the state were illegal.

Cabral said the mines should not be closed till some alternative employment avenue is arranged for the people dependent on it.

The state can decide on the buffer zone around wildlife sanctuaries but the mines in that region should not be shut down immediately, he said.

“Shut down the mines but in a phased manner,” he added.

India is a vast country and developing.

I am sure it should not be difficult to sell the trucks for other uses or purposes either in Goa or other larger States.

There seems to be an element of naked "GREED" amongst the Truck owners...ably assisted by some MLA`s.

Many MLA`s in the Mining areas, are afraid to lose their illegal incomes.

Having spent Crores at the elections, they are wondering how they will recoup their expenditure.

No Goan should be surprised, when at te next elections, the MLA`s currently crying on behalf of the mines have trebled their incomes....from unknown sources and against their known sources.

Many of the crying Truckers are also non-Goans.They should seek assistance from their own State Governments....or the MINERS.

The Truck owners should also start learning that nothing in life is "INFINITE".

There are far more people in Goa, that live below the poverty line and with less than Rs 100 per day.

There are many people that also live, on survival incomes.

What does Mr Nilesh Cabral have to say about them.

Of late, Nilesh Cabral seems to have a skewed & an unrealistic view of life in Goa.

No doubt he hashidden financial interests in the Mining industry.

While it is a well known fact that the Congress Party has many "Mafia type & style" MLA`s, past & present...I must state there are a few in the BJP Party too.

It is also a known fact that many MLA`s come into Politics for their personal & financial interestes rather that that of the Goan People.

It would not surprise me if Mr Cabral fits this description or is graduating & migrating towards it.

The Goverment will be justified if it helps truck owners who are having only one truck. But most of the truck owners in the state are having more than 9-10 trucks. Will you like the Govt should help these truck owners . kindly inform the Goans how many trucks you own.
