Alina to act against Aldeia's eco violations

Environment minister Alina Saldanha has assured to act against Aldeia de Goa in Bambolim for constructing a retaining wall near the beach without environment clearance.
The issue was raised by St Andre MLA Vishnu Wagh today as no further action has been initiated after a show cause notice issued to the hotel on 17 May.
Saldanha agreed that the notice was issued after conducting a site inspection while the hotel authorities have not even bothered to reply to the notice till date.
She also informed the House that Aldeia has not sought any kind of permission to construct this retaining wall, including the local panchayat.
She also said that the CRZ regulations do not allow reclamation of the riverine water, which has been done by the hotel.
It was pointed out that the directions of streams have been changed by constructing such walls.
Wagh also pointed out that the hotel authorities – both Aldeia de Goa as well as Grand Hyatt – have displaced the locals without compensating them in any manner.
“The displaced locals have not been given jobs and even local taxis are not allowed in the hotel”, he claimed.
Wagh also alleged that a sailing club is being planned now which would displace the local fishermen.
Saldanha said action would be initiated soon after conducting proper site inspection as soon as the Assembly session was over.
