Monsoon tourism in hinterland from next season

Goa is now once again planning monsoon tourism, now in the hinterland, of Canacona, Quepem and Sanguem talukas, from the next season.

Without disclosing any details, tourism minister Dilip Parulekar today said the government would focus more on hinterland tourism, including monsoon tourism.

The Goa Tourism Development Corporation has already started white water rafting in Sattari taluka, which is gaining immense popularity from the day it has started.

He also reiterated that he is planning a tourism policy with introductions of hinterland tourism, eco tourism, adventure tourism, rural tourism, cultural and heritage tourism as well as backwater tourism.

“We will also build golf courses to attract tourists, especially the Japanese tourists”, he told the Assembly today.

As per the information supplied to the Assembly, Goa received 26.70 lakh tourists last year while it has already crossed 11 lakh this year, till June.

The tourists are increasing every year with 25 lakhs in 2009 and 26.42 lakh in 2010.

The foreign tourists have also increased from 3.70 lakhs in 2009, 4.41 lakhs in 2010 and 4.45 lakhs last year, added Parulekar.
