House lauds new GCA for ending one-man show
GOANEWS DESK, PANAJI | 24 July 2012 13:36 ISTThe Goa Assembly today congratulated the newly elected body of the Goa Cricket Association while expressing satisfaction that the Family Raj in the GCA is over, obviously referring to former GCA chief Dayanand Narvekar.
None of the Congress MLA however spoke on the congratulatory motion moved by Aldona MLA Glen Ticlo, though speaker Rajendra Alrekar said the motion is passed unanimously.
Sports minister Ramesh Tawadkar extended full co-operation to the ‘new team’ of GCA while appealing to create Dhonis from villages of Goa rather than concentrating only on the city players.
He also described the election of GCA as yet another Parivartan in Goa, after the political Parivartan, stating that the GCA was earlier run as a home property.
Transport minister Sudin Dhawalikar, who himself was a cricket player, expressed hope that things would fall in line now with a new committee working as a team, rather than what was happening in the past.
Sanguem MLA Subhash Phaldesai demanded probe into all the scandals of the GCA while alleging that lots of corruption had taken place in the GCA.
Fatorda independent MLA Vijay Sardesai recalled past instances where a player from disqualified only because he hit four sixers to the bowler, who was the president’s son.
He hoped that merit would rule the selection criteria with the new committee taking over under new president Vinod Fadke, who was the vice president in Narvekar’s GCA.
Sanquelim MLA Pramod Sawant and Bicholim independent MLA Naresh Sawal also congratulated the new committee while stating that the one-man show was now over.
