Bill prohibiting outsiders buying Agro land
GOANEWS DESK, PANAJI | 23 July 2012 13:21 ISTThe Goa government is bringing legislation in the ongoing Assembly session, prohibiting non-agriculturists to buy agricultural land in Goa.
“This would prohibit the outsiders buying huge tracts of land for housing or other purpose”, said chief minister Manohar Parrikar.
During a debate on special category status raised by Dabolim MLA Mauvin Godinho, Parrikar said the bill would be moved in the monsoon session.
When Godinho brought to the notice of the House that lots of outsiders are purchasing even other land in Goa, the chief minister said the law does not allow him to stop these people.
However, he said he would not tolerate any hoteliers creating enclaves illegally by acquiring land.
“I will not renew their license if they do not stop this practice”, he warned.
When Fatorda independent MLA Vijay Sardesai asked whether prohibiting non-agriculturists to buy agricultural land would be with retrospective effect, the CM suggested him to move all kind of amendments when the bill is tabled in the House.
