Parrikar Govt to continue grants to "Eng" medium Church schools till decision on MoI

Chief minister Manohar Parrikar is not in a mood to confront the Church-run primary schools, which have shifted its medium from Konkani to English, by continuing them salary grants without having a legal provision for it.

The Parrikar government has already assured the high court that it would withdraw the circular issued on 14 June last year, which was intending to give grants also to English medium primary schools.

Accordingly, 105 primary schools run by Archdiocesan Board of Education had shifted from Konkani to English medium before the government could take a decision.

Meanwhile, the court had withheld the circular.

The high court had then instructed the government to act against these schools, but the government had expressed its inability to act immediately while asking for more time.

Meanwhile, Parrikar government has decided to continue giving grants to these “English” medium primary schools, till final decision regarding medium of instruction is taken.

“We cannot take decision now due to panchayat election code of conduct”, claimed Parrikar.

He plans to take all the stakeholders, including FORCE and BBSM, into confidence before working out amicable solution on the MoI issue.

“Till then, the grants would continue to all”, he said.
