Panchayat elections on 16 May, 55 police officers transferred

Panchayat elections for 185 panchayats would be now held on 16 May.

A notification for publication was issued by Directorate of Panchayats today evening.

The code of conduct thus came into effect immediately, to be in force for one month from today.

Director of Panchayats Menino D’Souza said notifications for reservations of wards for women, scheduled tribe and Other Backward Classes as well as delimitation of wards have also been issued.

It would be immediately published in the official gazette.

The state election commission would start the nomination process once the notifications are published in the gazette.

The wards reserved for women are as follows:

Five-member panchayats: Wards 2 & 7.

Seven-member panchayats: Ward 2 & 7.

Nine-member panchayats: Wards 2,4 & 7.

11-member panchayats: Wards 3, 4 7 & 11 as well as wards 2, 4, 7 & 11.

Meanwhile, little before these notifications were issued, the state government transferred total 55 police officers across the state.

It included 12 DySPs, 34 police inspectors and nine sub-inspectors.

The state election commission had banned any transfer of police officer after the notification for panchayat elections was issued.
