Parsekar in dark over human trafficking in GMC canteen

Two weeks after cases of human trafficking came to light at a canteen on the premises of state-run hospital and medical college, Goa Health Minister Laxmikant Parsekar today claimed that he was not aware of the development.
"I am hearing it from you now. I will enquire into it," Parsekar said, answering a reporter's query.
A boy was rescued from the canteen of Goa Medical College and Hospital during a raid two weeks ago, while another, who had been allegedly sold for Rs 15,000 to the canteen contractor, went missing.
This apart, there were, allegedly, three more boys who had been sold, to be employed as canteen-hands.
The contractor was arrested by Agassaim police, following a complaint by Goa State Commission for Protection of Child Rights (GSCPCR), which had conducted the raid.
Apna Ghar, a government-run remand home, too came under the scanner after the raid, as one of the boys was staying there.
He had been sent home by the remand home after he turned 16, but instead ended up in the canteen.
Goa Medical College dean, Dr V N Jindal, said that "police have not formally informed us about the racket running at the hospital premises".

Raveena was admitted in Pai Nursing Home on July 2, 2010 and was operated on the next day by Dr Dilip Amonkar for appendix. Following doctors advise she was shifted to GMC on July 10. The doctors attending her at GMC performed second operation where the parents and family members of Raveena were kept in dark about her condition.
