3 weekly express trains for Goa in railway budget
GOANEWS DESK, PANAJI | 14 March 2012 17:39 ISTThree new weekly express trains would pass through Goa, with one up to Madgao, as per the announcement made in the railway budget today.
Railway minister Dinesh Trivedi has announced 75 new express trains.
It includes one weekly train from Hopa to Madgao, via Vasai Road, Roha.
There are also two more weekly trains via Vasai Road, Roha – the Konkan railway route, which would pass through Goa.
These are Coimbatore-Bikaner AC Express and Dadar-Tirunelveli Express.
Besides express trains, the railway minister has also 21 passenger trains, eight MEMU services and nine DEMU services.
In addition, he has also proposed to extend the run of 40 train and increase the frequency of 23 trains.
Trivedi also proposes to electrify 6500 route kilometers in the 12th Plan, with an allocation of Rs 828 crore.
It includes the route from Bangalore to Vasco via Tumkur, Hubli and Londa.
The minister has introduced marginal rise in rail fare, between two paise to 30 paise per kilometer.
The fare hike would be 2 paise per km for suburban and ordinary second class; 3 paise per km for mail/express second class; 5 paise per km for sleeper class; 10 paise per km for AC Chair Car, AC 3 tier and First Class; 15 paise per km for AC 2 tier and 30 paise per km for AC I.
The platform ticket would also now cost Rs five.
