'Home service' to be introduced in Goa
PTI, PANAJI | 28 July 2011 23:07 ISTThose visiting Goa can now feel the real warmth of hospitality with the state government promoting home stay facilities for guests.
Goa Tourism Development Corporation (GTDC), state-run Corporation, has decided to support such households who are part of home stay facility under 'Bed and Breakfast' scheme.
"The basic idea is to provide clean and affordable place for foreigners and domestic tourists alike including an opportunity for foreign tourists to stay with Goan family and to experience Goan customs and traditions and moreover relish Goan cuisine," GTDC's General Manager Sanjay Chodnekar said.
The homes where owner or promoter stays with his family will only be eligible for the scheme, he said adding there should be minimum one room and maximum five rooms let out for the guests.
Chodnekar said the scheme would supplement availability of accommodation facility in Goa.
The state attracts 24 lakh tourists annually of which four lakh are foreigners.
The occupancy touch as high as 90 per cent during the peak season of November-December when visitors descend here to usher in the New Year.
The 'Bed and Breakfast' facility will be classified in two categories -- 'A' category which is equivalent to Gold category of Government of India under similar scheme and 'B' category which is equivalent to silver category of Government of India.
Chodnekar said an empanelment committee constituted by GTDC's Board of Directors will inspect and assess the 'Bed and Breakfast' establishments based on facilities and services offered.
