DFF-ESG feud worries IFFI Com chairman

ESG CEO Manoj Srivastava & DFF Director S M Khan

Chairman of the Steering committee for International Film Festival of India (IFFI) Mike Pandey, has alleged that "the constant disagreement" between the Directorate of Film Festival (DFF) and Entertainment Society of Goa (ESG), is proving detrimental to the film festival.

Pandey, a renowned wildlife filmmaker, has written a letter to the Goa government on July 14 in this regard.

The letters states that there are differences between the two bodies.

ESG is promoted by the government of Goa, while DFF is a body under Ministry of Information and Broadcasting (I&B).

Pandey is heading the steering committee put in place by MoI&B Ambika Soni to streamline the functioning of the festival.

"We need to get away from the syndrome of, "this is something incurred by Goa state" or "that belongs to the Centre".

Let us pool our strength, experience and hearts and work as one team," Pandey says in the letter.

He said that "both the agencies should work in unison."

"Segregation and division would just weaken and water down our collaborative strength. I see indications that disturb me," Pandey has said.

Since 2004, IFFI is being held in Goa in the months of November-December, which hosts films from several Asian, Latin American and African countries.

Constant fighting to control the spending of money from the public exchequer for the IFFI needs to be condemned. It is time an impartial audit needs to be done for justifying the huge spending from public exchequer on events like IFFI and assess whether the money spent is really in public interest or for private interests or it is simply misuse of public funds....Let this be examined against the per capita debt burden of the State.....
