Cong to decide on MoI as per Education act

The ruling Congress party, leader of the coalition government, has decided to take a decision as per the Right to Education Act, but not by neglecting aspirations of parents, while deciding on Medium of Instruction (MoI) issue.

Jagmeet Brar, in-charge of Goa desk of the Congress, said the party would decide on the controversial issue taking into consideration “the constitution, the Right to Education Act and aspirations of the parents.”

He flew down to Goa yesterday and met all the Congress leaders, including chief minister Digambar Kamat as well as PWD minister Churchill Alemao, who yesterday tried to mobiles his party MLAs to press for the demand of English-medium at primary level.

The issue is becoming aggressive while fresh Assembly polls are round the corner. While Church has backed the demand of English medium, the RSS and the BJP on the other hand have vehemently opposed the demand.

The pro-English medium parents are demanding that English medium at primary level be made part of the Right to Education act. Presently, English-medium primary schools are not being giving salary grants.

Alemao, though said he was sticking to his demand, did not look as aggressive as he normally is. “Our party takes any decision in a democratic manner and we will wait for it”, he told the reporters after meeting Brar.

Churchill was the last MLA to meet Brar today. The Congress has left the decision, as usual, to the high command as the party is vertically divided on the issue.
