Iron ore income more than ecological damage?

Countering criticism that Goa is paying a heavy price by promoting the iron ore industry, the state government today came out with a report that said the benefits of the booming industry far outweigh environmental damage caused by it to the state.

National Council of Applied Economic Research (NCAER) in its report unveiled today has said the cost of giving away iron ore extraction industry in Goa is much more than the environment cost associated with it.

NCAER''s Chief Economic Adviser R Venkatesan has estimated that costs associated with giving up iron ore industry in Goa would be greater by Rs 1,842.20 crore per year.

The study, which was released today by Chief Minister Digamber Kamat, has mentioned that annual loss of income due to environmental degradation is to the tune of Rs 548.4 crore.

The major portion for environmental degradation comprises of deforestation which is valued at Rs 467.3 crore annually.

Venkatesan said the "total share of iron ore mining to the state GDP including direct and indirect effects is 12.74 per cent."

The state, which has 100-odd mining leases, has earned Rs 9,173 crore from the export of iron ore.

The study also mentions that taxes paid by the mining industry to the state and Centre were Rs 2,500 crore last fiscal.

"The Central Government received Rs 2,000 crore in the form of taxes which includes corporate tax of Rs 1,600 crore," Venkatesan said, adding, the mining industry employs around 75,000 people in the state.

Who ever has done a Study on this issue .

Please See in point of view as The SOIL=LAND>>>> Is Exported to The other Part of the WOrld May be CHINA>>> OR EVEn DUBAI... where rejected material is used for UPcoming projects Like PALM JUMERRA a MAN MADE ISLAND..... i.e may be from GOAN Soil is bought at very cheap rate than the reports Specify.

If the report is Correct than why the rate of IROn IN LOCAL MARKET IS Rs45000/- per ton when CHINA n all Purchase GOAN SOIL (INDIAN SOIL) at a rate of Rs2200/- per Ton.

CAN HE Equate this figure

45000=Rs2200....

From Which The benifits what he is talking about is on 2200 & not 45000....

REPORT IS MISLEADING ..FUTURE GENERATION WILL SUFFER BECAUSE OF THIS.

The mining revenue returned to Goa is smaller. Goa should get a greater portion, in order to do, inter alia, replanting of trees and making good the damage. The Centre is to gain more by this report. The report may perhaps be biased in favour of the Centre. They work within a pre-conceived brief, which may not be conducive to Goa's long term sustenance. What they have obviously look at is a short-term gain, leaving Goa at the mercy of natural healing like a discarded carcass. Forgive me expressing this way.

The mining activities cause immense loss to the life and property of the residents. The mining dust spoils the health of the people and causes many pulmonary diseases besides causing many fatal accidents due to rash driving! The manner in which a small State like Goa is exploiting the natural deposits for the benefit of a few and bulk of the taxes going to the Cnter- is totally deplorable and has no justification at all. Infact it is a great injustice on the future generation to whom this wealth belongs! The days will not be far off when we will have to import the same grade ore from China- may be at rates many times more than what we are exporting now! This has already happened with onions!

Getting reports to suit convenience is not very difficult in our corrupted country!

The remarks of the Supreme Court Justice appear true that even God will not be able to save this country...........
