Celebrities ineffective in saving tiger: Wildlife filmmaker

The cause of the Indian tiger is a favourite among celebrities, from Hollywood heartthrob Leonardo DiCaprio to Bollywood megastar Amitabh Bachchan.
But wild life filmmaker S Nallumuthu, a wildlife filmmaker whose film ''Tiger Queen'' is in the short film centre of the International Film Festival of India, is of the opinion that the involvement of celebs is not helping the cause of the big cat.
There are more NGOs working for tiger protection than the tigers remaining in the country, quipped the filmmaker.
"There are lot of people out to save tigers. I don''t want to be in the crowd. In India, there are more NGOs working to protect wildlife than the tigers themselves," he said.
"Instead of a celebrity appealing to save tigers, we have presented the story of the big cat and that is a better way to mobilise people," said the filmmaker.
''Tiger Queen'' explores the battle for power and supremacy in a family of tigers. The action packed film is set in Ranthambore and Sariska National parks in Rajasthan and Nallumuthu claims that it is the first ever wildlife film shot on high definition (HD) camera.
The documentary produced by Grey Films India Private Limited, was filmed over a period of 130 days and Nallumuthu described it as an emotional drama.
"There are no anchors. It''s a real story presented by tracking a tiger family in their habitat," said the filmmaker, who feels that after watching the documentary the audience will naturally be moved to protect the beautiful animal.
