Goa to achieve double digit growth: Guv

Governor Dr S S Sidhu

Goa governor Dr S S Sidhu has said that Goa would achieve double digit growth rate in 2009-10, after a steep slip to 7.2 per cent during 2008-09, against 14.3 per cent growth rate achieved the previous year.

"The Gross State Domestic Product (GSDP) growth rate of 14.13 per cent achieved during 2007-08 has fallen to 7.2 per cent during 2008-09," the Governor said while addressing customary address to the fifth Goa Assembly

However, he admitted that the economic slowdown has adversely affected the growth momentum achieved by Goa during the last couple of years.

"Now, the state economy has also started showing the signs of revival and is likely to achieve a double digit GSDP growth rate during 2009-10," he said.

The compound annual growth rate of 10.7 per cent has however been registered during the first two years - 2006-07 to 2008-09, he said, which is higher than the national target of 9 per cent fixed by the planning commission for 11th five year plan.

The slowdown is largely due to the world economy crisis, which attained serious magnitude in the last few years,  said the governor.

Sidhu said that the shadow of economic slowdown has started receding, thanks to the fiscal stimulus that the central government infused for revival of the economy.

The Governor said that state government has given greater emphasis on public spending and therefore the plan size for 2009-10 was increased by a substantial 29 per cent.

Addressing the house, Governor said that the state could utilize 93 per cent and 98 per cent of total state plan allocation during the first two years of eleventh five year plan and it is expected that entire state plan allocation would be utilized during the financial year ending March 2010.

The governor also told Goa assembly that early raid warnings system during an emergency situation has been put in place by the state government.

Governor said that both the districts of Goa has been declared as multi hazardous districts and is considering revamping of civil defence set up.

"Two towns of Panaji and Mormugao have been declared as category two civil defense towns and have been connected to naval operation room, INS Gomantak," he said addressing the fifth Goa Legislative Assembly.

Panaji is a state capital while Mormugao is a home for many vital installations including port, oil tanks and defence establishments.

Lauding law and order situation in the state, Sidhu said that police have done commendable job in investigating the Margao bomb blast that occurred in October 2009.

"Police did a commendable job in reaching the spot immediately and collecting vital information which provided break through clues in the investigation," he said.

Yeah Mr. Joe Ganja, your right. I feel ashamed when these news comes on Gulf News, Khaleejtimes & other Gulf newspapers with big headlines and everyone is asking regarding this, everyday or other there is wrong news about Goa.

Yes Joe Ganja, when a Russian or any other foreigner is raped from the Chief Minister to the Police Constable, put their tails down and run to catch the culprits. But when a Goan poor girl is raped, neither the accused nor the victim is heard of again. Only once the news will appear on the papers and then it is the end of the investigation of the case. Believe me, soon a “Final Report” will be sent to the JMFC (Judicial Magistrate First Class), I mean to the court. The PSI who is investigating the case God alone knows how much he must have received as bribe from the culprit. Because if they could nab an unknown accused of the Russian rape case in no time, then most certainly they must have caught this rape accused also and must have taken all that he had in his pocket and let him go. This is what happens at the Police Stations in Goa at night. I am a direct witness to quite a lot of such incidents when I was a cop on active duty. The ministers, politicians and the Police are all afraid of the foreign missions (Embassies) and they know that these foreign missions will not let them go off till they thoroughly investigate the case and arrest the accused. The rest is History….- Menino (Valpoi)

Police have done a commendable job in investigations of Margao Bomb Blast! BUT What is the USE ??? When there is STILL NO ACTION??? No Group is BANNED or PUNISHED yet. Indian Home Ministry has asked the MP of Goa to ask the state govt. to prepare a report against "SANATHAN SOUNSTHA" but still there is NO Paper and Pen available in the Goa Assembly to clear this issue...... why??? This is all because of, GOEMCHEA MONTRIACHEM KUMPARPONN. By the way what happened to case of a Minor Girl's RAPE in Margao - Sonssodo? Still no outcome or prospects???, the rape case in Seraulim???, Old womens case in Raia??? .....and maybe there are many cases like this which are not brought into light and just left into darkness because of Political Pressures? Anyway keep the SEARCH & INVESTIGATIONS going.... because each Tommorow is nothing but the Photocopy(XEROX) of Yesterday. After publishing about any Issues for 4 or 5 days, the GOAN PRESS is Quiet n Cool and suddenly they will wake up again after months and so on or if there is any presure from some source - why? Fundamental Right of India - "Freedom of Press" Any Press can play a very good and important role in putting some issues in right track and direction. Press Action will definitely put some pressure and hence shall be obliged and determined to play their roles properly to cover themselves from everyday publications. ...But Overseas Press i think plays more role compared to their part because every next day we read Articles based on Goa (Rapes, Murders, Molestations, Robbery, Corruptions, Frauds, Dirty Politics & Politicians etc. etc. ) When we read this we feel ashamed and when some other nationality people, ask us about the related news? ...we go totaly Blank because it puts down our image and respect.

Is it growth rate or inflation rate? The way the prices are rising it should be inflation rate only!
