Ailing crocodile rescued

Forest department has rescued an ailing crocodile from a creek at Kundaim village in Goa. The possibility of survival however is bleak, an officer said.
The wildlife rescue squad on Sunday rescued a crocodile. It apparently had strayed at Kundaim creek from Cumbharjua river.
"It's an adult crocodile and efforts are on to treat him. There are no external injuries to him but his stomach is swollen," Range Forest Officer Amar Heblekar told reporters.
"We took X-ray of his stomach but could detect nothing," he said.
Heblekar said `the animal must have swallowed something like plastic because of which it is in distress. The animal is being treated at the rescue centre at Campal near here.
"We took X-ray of his stomach but nothing was found in it," he said.
The department was informed about the creature by a tourist guide, who takes the guests for bird watching in the creek.
The forest department officials said that Crocodile being cold blooded animal, the operations performed on them are usually not successful as they die of shock during operations.
Heblekar said that annually there are dozen of crocodiles rescued from various water bodies of the state. Cumbharjua river is a home for crocodiles, which has also turned into a tourist attraction.
