Goa Union of Journalists has appealed to women victims working in the media to come forward with complaints of sexual harassment at workplace.

The premiere journalists’ body has constituted a sub-committee to facilitate these complaints, by also co-opting senior lawyer and a woman’s activist, besides senior women journalists.

A decision in this regard was taken at an extra-ordinary general body meeting held on 12 September.

The committee, headed by GUJ president Sadguru Patil, consists of senior journalists Devika Sequeira, Bindiya Chari as well as Sanghamitra Mainkar, besides general secretary Atish Naik.

In addition, GUJ has also invited Adv Albertina Almeida, a women’s activist, on the committee. Adv Satish Sonak, a social activist, has also agreed to assist the committee.

A press note issued in this regard states that the panel would act as a facilitator and will forward all the complaints to the District Complaints Committee formed by Goa government under the Sexual Harassment of Women at Workplace (Prevention, Prohibition and Redressal) Act.

Complainants can be sent, stated the press note, to President Sadguru Patil via phone (9552275648) or email sadgurupatil@gmail.com or to Bindiya Chari at bindiya2k5@gmail.com (9763718497) or via the 'contact' form on the GUJ website (www.goauj.com/contact).
