Ask 'BCCI' leaders of BJP why they are silent: Smriti

Bharatiya Janata Party is silent on why its leaders on the BCCI are not speaking about the IPL spot-fixing controversy.

Smriti Irani, a BJP national leader and in-charge of Goa desk, preferred not to speak about her party leaders on BCCI not speaking about the controversy.

“You should ask them why they are silent. But our party is quite clear on the issue”, she said.

The media asked her today at a press conference why her party leaders like Gujarat chief minister Narendra Modi and RS opposition leader Arun Jaitley, who are the BCCI members, are silent on the issue.

“The BJP is not silent on the issue. We feel that the cricket is much bigger than the individuals”, she said.

Irani felt that the ongoing probe on IPL spot fixing should be brought to a logical conclusion and action has to be taken against the people responsible for bringing disrepute to cricket – the religion of India.

She also expressed hope that cricket would be cleaned up as a result of the ongoing investigations.

The BJJP MP also opined that a stringent law to curb the menace of betting and spot fixing in sports is a must.

When asked whether the BCCI should be brought under Right to Information Act, Irani said the party can definitely make a suggestion in this regard.

“But BCCI is a society and it could impact all other societies in the country. It needs to studied more deeply”, she felt.
