Uttarakhand amendments not in this session: CM

The amendments to Goa Lokayukta act on the lines of Uttarakhand act will not see the day of light in the ongoing Assembly session.

Chief minister had earlier promised to table the amendments in this session itself.

“It will not be possible as the law department is still working on the draft and I am completely tied up with this session”, Parrikar told goanews.com.

The draft, as promised, has already been sent by Adv Prashant Bhushan, leader of the Aam Aadmi Party, to Goa government.

The local leaders had submitted it to the chief minister on 13 March, two days ahead of the deadline.

Parrikar had assured to get the Lokayukta Act amended further, as per his election promise, on the lines of Uttarakhand act.

Following controversy over the amendments in Lokayukta act by the government, Parrikar had promised Adv Bhushan on 10 February, when they met, to amend the act further as per their demand.

“We have to also study the provisions due to which the Uttarakhand bill itself got stuck up. We won’t include those provisions in Goa amendments”, said Parrikar.

He also said he is aware that Adv Bhushan has deleted those objectionable provisions while sending the Goa draft.

“But we also need to study it”, he said.

The chief minister is thus planning to utilise the ongoing session only to rollback on his earlier controversial amendments as the Governor has sent the bill back to the Assembly.

He however did not disclose when the amendmenet bill on the lines of Uttarakhand Loayukta act would be introduced in the Assembly.

The next Assembly session may be held during monsoons.
