On December 18, 1961, Operation Vijay was put into action. Indian troops crossed the border into Goa.

While writing Goa,s history of liberation in Dec 1961 we fail to note that Lok Sabha elections were due in March 1962. The two continuous term of Nehru has caused a disenchantment among masses. Already Kerala saw a Marxist victory. Congress wanted a stunt show in its showcase. Therefore Operation Vijay.
