Subsidy for Goenkar Poder for Unddo @ Rs 3/-

Goa’s traditional Poder will now get a government subsidy, so that traditional Pau, Unddo, Polli and Kankonn of 50 gms each will not cost more than Rs three for the next five years.
As assured in the budget by chief minister Manohar Parrikar, the Goa Traditional Bakers (Poder) Subsidy Scheme would be launched on 23 June.
However the Poder would be paid first subsidy with retrospective effect, from 1 October last year, said Lavoo Mamledar, chairman of the Goa Handicraft Corporation. \
Around 500 traditional bakers of Goa, registered with the Goa Bakers’ Association, are expected to benefit from the scheme.
The Poder would basically get a subsidy on the purchase of Maida, the basic ingredient of Goa’s traditional Pau.
“To avail the scheme, the Poder needs to be a Goan resident by birth and should be running the business for not less than 20 years”, said Mamledar.
The subsidy is divided into three categories, Maida up to 50 kgs per day, for which a subsidy of Rs 4 per kg would be paid, then Rs 2 per kg for Maida between 51 to 100 kg and Rs 1 per kg for Maida between 101 to 150 kg.
No subsidy would be paid for Maida beyond 150 kgs per day, clarified Lavinson Martins, the Managing Director of the Handicraft Corporation.
He also said the subsidy would be paid once in three months, provided the Maida is purchased from authorized outlets of Sahakar Bhandar, Goa Bagayatdar or Bardez Bazar.
Mamledar also said no Poder could avail the scheme if the weight of the bread is reduced below 50 gms.
The government is estimating around Rs five crore annually to spend on the unique scheme, which would be around Rs 1.37 lakh every day.
