Reinstate workers and start mining, CM appeals to mining industry

Take the workers back into service and start mining as fast as possible, Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar has told the mining industry.
While centre has exempted Goa’s ore exporters from paying export duty, Goa government has also decided to reduce its fees by almost 95 per cent.
“The mining workers should not have fear of retrenchment. The industry should concentrate on mining rather than issuing retrenchments notices to the workers”, said Parsekar.
He has welcomed the central government announcement of abolishing 10 per cent export duty on the low grade iron ore of Goa.
Information reveals that the measures, coming under the purview of the state government, include reducing the processing fee from Rs 20 to mere Rs 2 per tonne, green cess from Rs 20 to Rs 2 and also reducing commercial tax imposed on the exports.
When asked whether these concessions would also benefit the mining truck owners who are demanding more charges for transportation, the CM avoided a direct reply.
“All stakeholders should benefit from it, including barge owners, machinery owners and mainly the workers”, he said.
He also appealed to the mining industry to pull up their sleeves and start mining operations as fast as possible.
Stating that the export duty exemption would boost the mining industry, Parsekar said: “If Manohar Parrikar was the finance minister, I would have said this is his brainchild.”
However, he avoided telling whose brainchild is this.
