No-mine stopped death toll on roads

 

Not a single person was killed by a mining truck this year.

How much ‘livelihood’ of the people has been affected due to stoppage of mining is an issue not authenticated with statistics so far, but it definitely has saved ‘lives’ of people.

The mining was stopped in October last year.

Chief minister Manohar Parrikar said not a single person has died in a road accident caused due to mining truck till 18 March 2013.

He has replied to the question raised by Fatorda MLA Vijay Sardesai.

However, as there was no discussion on it since it was unstarred question, no information is available whether there was any death from October to December last year, involving mining truck.

The statistics provided by Parrikar reveals that total 685 road accidents were registered in three years, since 2010.

These accidents occurred due to speeding mining trucks in various parts of Goa cost 61 lives for the people living in the mining belt.

Similarly, 306 people were injured.
