Sale permit made mandatory for ore trade

In a bid to avoid use of illegally extracted iron ore by the domestic industry, Goa Mines and Geology department has made it mandatory to have `sale permit'’ for the ore traded within the state.

The department in a circular issued today has said that the application for the issuance of sale permit should be made by the leaseholder or trader to the Director of Mines and Geology department.

Director of Mines Prasanna Acharya said that such a regulatory framework is required to ensure that the illegally extracted ore is not sold to the domestic industry.

The new regulation will be enforced from May 10.

The ore export from Goa is regulated by issuance of NOCs by the department to exporters.

However, the sale of ore for trading or domestic consumption within Goa is unregistered which leaves scope for malpractice, he said.

The new rule would ensure that illegally extracted ore is not sold in the market.

Good to see some regulations finally coming in the Mining . Natural resources are not renewable...Once extracted and sold---they get lost for ever...And if this business is done without proper compensation to the State for the benefit of a few---it is a grave injustice....The strong mining Lobby fights every attempt to make available higher chunk of the huge profits---by using the Judicial process and outdated legislations and blessings from those in Power at the Centre and States....Time has come for all this to stop and change for good....
