Jana suggests budget reforms

As was obvious, the Bharatiya Janata Party has told the central government to neutralise the adverse impact of the recent budget or to go in for immunisation.

Admitting that union finance minister Yeshwant Sinha's budget has also contributed to the setback of the party in recent elections, BJP president Jana Krishnamurthy has suggested to tighten up the belt to bring the economy out of mess.

While speaking after opening the national executive meeting here in Goa, the party president said time has come for an in depth analysis of the issue.

"A healthy balance could be struck between economic rationality behind economic reforms and capacity of the party for political management", he said.

He also appealed to the government to introduce adequate safety net measures before initiating steps towards the lower interest rate regime, though necessary for economic development, while drawing attention to the fate of retired persons in India.

Before moving into second generation reforms, Krishnamurthy has also suggested to appoint an experts committee to thoroughly assess the impact of first generation reforms, within three to six months.

Drawing attention to the bulging food stock of around 75 million tonnes, the BJP chief has also asked for further flexibility in public distribution system, especially for those living below poverty line, by introducing food coupons or daily-base purchase system.

To implement the New Textile Policy more effectively, Krishnamurthy also urges need to take efforts by healthy interaction between ministries of textile, finance and small scale industry so that the sector, second only to agriculture in India, is pulled out of the ongoing crisis.
