Finance bill passed amidst chaose for the third day

BJP protesting as House-morcha

The Assembly passed the finance bill tabled by chief minister Digambar Kamat amidst chaos that continued for the third consecutive day over the issue of detention of education minister Babush Monseratte by customs officials.

The House was adjourned twice by speaker Pratapsing Rane.

When the House assembled in the morning at 11.30 am, opposition leader Manohar Parrikar raised a point of order stating that adjournment motion be accepted to debate over detention of Monseratte at Mumbai air port by the customs on Saturday, for carrying foreign currency beyond permissible limit.

Counting the argument of the speaker that the issue cannot be discussed since it comes under the purview of the central government, Parrikar also pointed out that the case of attack on police station by Monseratte three years ago was now shifted to Mumbai by the CBI.

Discussing the conduct of Monseratte thus becomes necessary, he said, while also demanding his resignation. He also blamed Kamat for not showing guts to sack him.

Since the opposition was not allowing the Question Hour to be taken up, Rane adjourned the House till 12.30 pm.

When reassembled, the opposition continued its protests. Amidst pandemonium, Rane took up  the finance bill for passing while the opposition members circled the well and shouted slogans ‘Chor Chor’.
