Railway track where burning bike was thrown
The railway police have filed a case against an unknown person for dumping a burning motorcycle on a railway track early morning today, little away from Madgao railway station.
Major tragedy of derailment was averted due to alert driver of a Ro Ro goods train, who saw little fire on the track while coming out of Sarzora tunnel from Karnataka side to Madgao.
“This cannot be anything else than a sabotage”, said Baban Ghatge, public relations officer of Konkan Railway Corporation.
The police are also now investigating the case from sabotage angle.
The burning motorcycle was thrown on the track at Dicarpale soon after the Netravati Express crossed while Kerala Sampark Kranti Express was to pass at around 1.20 am.
The Ro Ro train driver saw the fire on the track at around 00.30 am.
The police have now filed a complaint against the Indian Railways Act – section 150 for maliciously wrecking or attempting to wreck a train and section 151 for damage to or destruction of certain railway properties.
In addition, section 435 of Indian Penal Code for mischief by fire or explosive substance with intent to cause damage has also been applied.
The dog squad, from the railway track, went up to nearby houses but could not give further clues.
The police are hopeful of making a breakthrough after they find out the owner of the motorcycle based on its chassis number.
