Goa delegation to PM delayed till mid-June

Meeting of the all-party delegation to Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh has been delayed to mid-June now.

Chief minister Manohar Parrikar was to meet the PM tomorrow, to press for Special Status for Goa as well as special package for mining dependents.

He was also planning to give a letter to PM on shifting naval base of Dabolim to Mopa, which is opposed by quite a few political parties.

However, there is unanimity on the issue of Special Status and package of around Rs 3000 crore for mining dependent people.

Parrikar today told media that he was asked to come and meet the PM on 7 June instead of 5 June.

“But I cannot since our three-day BJP national executive meeting begins on the same day.”

He has thus asked for a fresh appointment between 12 to 14 June.

The chief minister said the meeting got delayed since the PMO could not collect the necessary data for these meetings in time and discuss with him since PM was not in India.

Besides one leader from each political party, he also plans to take along with him the stakeholders in mining industry like barge and truck operators, workers, traders etc.
