Gujarat comes to Goa to attract tourists

Big B, the brand ambassador of Gujarat

The Tourism Corporation of Gujarat Limited (TCGL) has said there has been a 13 per cent growth in the sector, with the number of visitors to the state crossing two crore in the last financial year.

The number of tourists has risen from 6O lakh in 2006 to 2.54 crore last year, said TCGL Chairman Kamlesh Patel at a road show in Goa today.

"While tourism grew at 6.5 per cent nationally, Gujarat grew at 13 per cent," Patel said, giving credit to the Narendra Modi government in the state.

He said the state government has addressed all the grievances of tourism sector and also introduced new trends like agriculture tourism in addition to existing tourist attractions like Saputara, Rann of kutch and religious places.

TCGL has also introduced special packages for Navaratri festival between October 5-13 this year coupling tourist destination with the cultural festival.
"While you can enjoy tourism destination during the day, you can dance in the night," said Biswas, Manager (Marketing) TCGL.
He said the introduction of megastar Amitabh Bachchan as a brand ambassador of the tourism is helping its growth story.
