Goa to have all-women police teams on beaches

 

Goa plans to have all-women night patrolling team to ensure safety of women tourists.

It is a part of various measure Goa’s tourism department has taken to safeguard tourist safety.

Goa government has swiftly acted in response to the advisories issued by several countries in view of increasing crimes against tourists in Goa.

Tourism minister Dilip Parulekar has said the department is setting up a Tourist Police Force of around 250 Indian Reserve Battalion.

This Force would also include around 50 lady police constables, who have been sensitized and trained to deal with the safety requirements of especially women travelers.

The department has also appointed night patrolling teams, one each in North and South Goa, comprising of one Police Sub Inspector along with supported staff of six to eight constables.

These teams will operate from sunset to midnight every day of the week.

In addition, said Parulekar, two flying squads have been constituted for each district, having   powers of the Executive Magistrate, to take action or pass judicial orders on the spot.

The department has also set up Surveillance and Monitoring Teams led by Assistant Tourists Officers, to check on all kind illegalities.

They will inspect any hotel/shack/any place of business related to tourists at any time.

The tourism department is in process of demarcating separate swimming zones, with one being tried presently in Baga.
