Anjune-Amthane dams reach danger mark

All 4 gates of Anjune dams were opened

With water level reaching danger level, all four gates of Anjune dam in Sattari were opened today, as a result of incessant rains for almost a week now.

Similar is the case of Amthane dam in Bicholim, where the water level has reached almost near danger mark.

As a matter of caution, the authorities have thus alerted villages around Anjune dam in Sattari as well as around Amthane dam in Bicholim to get prepared for any kind of eventuality.

The water resources department had already opened two gates of Anjune dam yesterday as the water was reaching the danger mark.

With the water level rising up to 91.90 metres, no other option was left than opening the remaining two gates today afternoon.

Subsequently, villagers of Keri, Morlem, Parye and Karpaur have been alerted.

Also four lift irrigation water pumps have started pumping out the water flooding in Sankhli market into river Walwanti, said WRD junior engineer K P Naik.

On the other hand, water level at Amthane dam reached 50 metres today while the danger mark is 50.05 metres.

The authorities broke open the bund at Sal river, in order to allow the water of Bicholim river to flow smoothly and avoiding any kind of danger, said WRD assistant engineer P V Sreekumar.

The villagers of Sal, Menkurem, Latambarsem, Piran and Advalpal villages have also been alerted.

Bicholim mamlatdar Gurudas Desai said the disaster management cell has been kept ready to face any kind of emergency.

Bicholim taluka recorded 88 mms of rain in last 24 hours while the total rainfall has been 2864 mms, which means 114.56 inches.

Bicholim deputy collector Narayan Gad is personally monitoring the disaster management arrangements in order to face any kind of eventuality.

We have to thank the LORD for giving us good monsoon after the closure of mines.

The people of goa got good harvest of cashew seed this season.

The people of Goa will also get a good harvest of Rice.

Business means buying and selling.

Mining is only looting and selling of iron ore, which is not called as business.
