Rs 36 crore to control Sinquerim-Baga sea erosion

To conserve Sinquerim-Baga beach belt which is facing threat from sea erosion, the Goa government will spend Rs 36 crore.
"The government is planning to erect marine bulwarks to arrest sea waves from washing the shoreline," Water Resources Department Minister Dayanand Mandrekar said in a written reply to the Legislative Assembly.
"The work of restoration of Candolim-to-Sinquerim beach is tendered for providing permanent reverting from erosion with the help of tetrapods with concrete blocks for a length of 1,000 metres," he said.
The reply also mentions that 18 other spots along the coast have been identified for the anti-sea erosion measures.
The measures to check sea erosion are funded through the Golden Jubilee Package offered by the erstwhile Digambar Kamat government.
