Dharnas on 19 Dec in all talukas against grants to Eng schools

Bharatiya Bhasha Suraksha Manch will hold Dharna on Goa Liberation Day in all the 12 talukas.

A detailed plan of mobilisation was chalked out at a meeting of BBSM held in Panaji today.

The BBSM has warned the government either to withdraw government grants to the Church-run English medium primary schools or face the wrath of the people.

Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar has already announced to make it a law to give concession of salary grants only to the Church-run primary schools run in English medium.

The government policy otherwise is to give grants only to Konkani and Marathi medium private primary schools and not to the English-medium schools.

The BBSM does not want this amendment to the Education Act passed in the forthcoming Assembly session scheduled in January.

The Congress government, in 2012, had continued salary grants to the primary schools run by Diocesan Board of Education even after they shifted from Konkani to English medium.

The BJP had fought Assembly election, assuring the people to withdraw these grants after coming to power.

The then Manohar Parrikar government however continued the Congress policy while Parsekar, who replaced Parrikar, now wants to make it a law.

The BBSM, which is dominated by Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh and Konkani stalwarts, has announced an intensified agitation against this policy of the BJP-led government.
