The capital city of Panaji and around would be decorated with traditional Goan flavor while the whole state would also celebrate state-sponsored Shigmo parades in 14 different towns of the 12- taluka state.

The only taluka deprived from celebrating state-sponsored Shigmo is the newly constituted Dharbandora taluka.

Shigmo parades would be held at two places in three talukas – Bicholim and Sanquelim in Bicholim taluka, Margao and Cuncolim in Salcete taluka and Curchorem and Quepem in Quepem taluka.

The rest of eight talukas would however celebrate the Shigmo parades at their respective taluka centres.

The parades would begin with Ponda on 27 March, to be continued till 10 April, the last parade to be held in Canacona.Dilip Parulekar with Srinivas Dempo at Shigmo PC

The tourism department is spending around Rs 1.8 crore on the celebrations, including Rs 66 lakh as mere prize money, informed tourism minister Dilip Parulekar at a press conference held in the city today.

He expects Shigmo, like Carnival, would also be a major tourist attraction this year, depicting Goa’s typical traditional treasure.

Among all, Panaji city has been allotted Rs 20 lakh for celebrations, besides Rs six lakh as the prize money.

“We will decorate the whole city, beginning with Porvorim junction near Sai Service  to Kala Academy with taranga, ghudi and lalkhi”, said  will be placed at various locations Srinivas Dempo, the chairman of the Panaji Shigmotsav Samiti.

Four more cities of Margao, Vasco, Mapusa and Ponda has been provided with Rs 10 lakh each for Shigmo infrastructure and Rs six lakh each for prizes.

Other nine cities have been provided with Rs six lakh for celebrations and Rs four lakh as the prize money.
