Vijai to play Nitish in Goa, with Grand Alliance for Grand Finale

Vijai Sardesai wants to play Nitish Kumar in Goa, forming a Grand Alliance for the forthcoming Assembly election 2017.

After playing semi-final in Fatorda by winning all 11 wards with 10 new faces (except Tito Cardoz), he plans to replicate the formula at state level to play his Grand Finale in the next Assembly election.

“I have 10 new candidates ready with me right now. The Mahagathbandhan of Goa will fight all the 40 seats to end the right-wing political rule of the Bharatiya Janata Party”, he said.

After hinting at ‘Goa Forward’ strategy at yesterday’s press conference, Sardesai spoke at length to goanews.com, unfolding his political strategy.

By forming ‘Fatorda Forward’, Sardesai literally swept the Margao municipal poll by getting all his 11 candidates getting elected in the 25-member council.

Besides direct support of one independent candidate from the ward falling in Curtorim Assembly constituency, Sardesai has six councillors of Margao Congress MLA Digambar Kamat with him, making it total 18.

“The Fatorda experiment has proved beyond doubt that people pose faith in you when you go to them with new and young faces. This needs to be replicated all over Goa”, he feels.

He claims to have already started working towards bringing all the anti-BJP forces together, either as individuals or even parties like the Congress, NCP etc.

Or will it be a new regional party?

“I am not ruling out the possibility. But right now I am getting like-minded people from all the parties together, may it be the Congress or the NCP”, disclosed Sardesai.

According to him, Goa can do without Congress if they don’t realise the mood of the people, who prefer new faces than the same old leaders.

He is not totally rejecting the Congress, admitting the fact that he supported his old party in the Lok Sabha election and forming alliance with the Congress MLA in Margao municipal election.

But he doubts whether Congress could join this alliance when the party is full of internal contradictions.

“I welcome even parties like AAP in this Grand Alliance on the lines of the support they have rendered to the Mahagathbandhan in Bihar”, says the ambitious independent MLA.

But he has no hopes of getting either any individual leader or support of the rightist party like the Maharashtrawadi Gomantak Party.

“That is not a left to the centre party. They are ideologically more close to the BJP than our thinking”, says the Fatorda MLA.
