India's sole referendum: When Goa didn't go with Bombay

 

On January 20, 1967, the Times of India (ToI) reported on how in the village of Loutolim in central Goa, most men had worn a rather fuzzy look for the past few days.

In a referendum, which had concluded some days before, on whether Goa should merge with Maharashtra, most villagers were strongly against the merger, but the local barber was strongly for it.
