Chetan, Balu, Akbar bailed out ‘conditionally’ after 10 days

 

After spending 10 days in police custody, three top officials of Goa Cricket Association – Chetan Desai, Vinod Phadke and Akbar Mullah – were released on conditional bail by the court today evening.

They are charged of forgery and cheating to the tune of Rs 3.13 crore.

The economic offences cell of the Goa police had arrested the high profile trio of the Goa Cricket Association on 15th June.

They are facing two cases of forgery.

One is of opening a fake bank account and withdrawing Rs 2.87 crore.

The second is issuing a bearer cheque of Rs 26 lakh to one person and showing it as payment to another agency, which never received the payment.

While they were in the police custody all these days, the hearing on their bail application concluded today.

Panaji JMFC laid down following conditions:

Surety of Rs 1 lakh each.

Reporting to the police station for four days, from 9.30 am to 5.30 pm.

Shall not directly or indirectly make any inducement, threats or promise to any person acquainted with the fact of the case so as to dissuade him from disclosing such facts to the court or to any police officer or tamper with the evidence

Shall not visit the GCA office for a period of 15 days, without the prior permission of the court.

Shall not take part in any activity of the GCA for 15 days.

Taking serious note of the case, the BCCI has already suspended Chetan Desai and Vinod Phadke from the committees of the apex body.

They have also been served show cause notices, asking why action should not be taken against them as GCA office bearers.
