Parrikar considers Goa a Country: AIMTC

The All India Motor Transport Congress has alleged that Goa government considers Goa as a separate country, as Goa chief minister wrote a strong letter against a central government bureaucrat to Prime Minister of India.
In a press note issued today with reference to the controversy over the entry fee, AIMTC president Bal Malkit Singh condemned chief minister Manohar Parrikar’s action of writing against an honest officer.
Deputy Secretary of Road Transport Nandan Singh had sent an advisory to Goa’s principal transport secretary not to impose entry tax on vehicles coming from outside Goa, in violation of the Motor Vehicles Act, on national highways.
In reality, the Goa government has imposed an entry fee as per the provisions of Goa Highways Act for the state roads, but collected at entry point.
Parrikar thus wrote to Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh, complaining that a bureaucrat has been sending advisories to the state government even before seeking an explanation about the issue.
The national level truck operators’ leader however exploded over the letter and once again highly objected to the entry fee.
“Goa government is considering non-Goans as foreigners and we wonder if someday Entry Visa may be introduced for the tourists and vehicles, in order to earn revenue”, Singh stated in a press note.
Instead of pacifying the transport community in a matured manner, Singh felt that Parrikar is not prepared to even meet the transport operators.
The AIMTC feels the entry fee imposed on outside vehicles is discriminatory in nature.
The outcome of this discrimination was witnessed in the Karnataka Assembly election, claimed Singh, as the BJP was miserably defeated in the poll.
Singh reiterated that they have deferred their strike not to enter Goan borders due to the assurances given by BJP leaders Rajnath Singh and Arun Jaitley to sort out the issue during BJP national executive meeting scheduled in Goa this month.
“We would reconsider our decision on the deferment of Goa boycott after we see the outcome of the assurances given by the central BJP leaders”, said Singh.
