Mhadei hearing adjourned till Feb

The long-awaited hearing on Mhadei water dispute has been adjourned to 23 February.

The hearing scheduled today was adjourned as the chairman of the Mhadei water dispute tribunal is presently undergoing medical treatment.

Water Resources minister Dayanand Mandrekar confirmed the news, while talking to media persons at the Anjune dam site today.

“We are fully prepared with our defence, unlike the erstwhile Congress government”, said Mandrekar.

Opposition leader Pratapsing Rane, who was also accompanying the minister at the dam site, said Goa has done a good job in fighting the Mhadei case and it would give positive result.

Mhadei issue has been in limelight for the last two months as Karnataka tried its level best to have an out-of-court settlement on the issue.

Besides state Bandh, morchas, demonstrations from peasants to film stars, some delegations also came to Goa while the all-party delegation led by Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah also met Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

However, Goa Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar outrightly rejected any out-of-court settlement.

On the contrary, CM Parsekar wrote to his Karnataka counterpart to wait for the tribunal judgement and respect the judiciary rather than resorting to pressure tactics through public protests.
