Special sops for Govt employees & Journos

Chief minister Manohar Parrikar has made special announcements for the government employees as well as media persons, who are primarily based in Panaji, his home constituency.

He has re-introduced the Special Voluntary Retirement Scheme for those government employees, who have completed 15 years in service, with full pension and gratuity.

This scheme had received tremendous response 10 years ago during his tenure while also creating employment opportunities for the youth.

Taking ahead the scheme of his predecessor Digambar Kamat to give one-time bonus to C and D type employees to mark 50 years of Goa’s liberation, Parrikar has now extended it to A and B employees as well as aided employees, mainly teachers.

The budget has also increased income limit for compassionate appointments among C and D employees to Rs two lakh.

Parrikar has also announced a real relief to the deceased of government employees to allow them to live in government quarters for three years by paying rental of 50 per cent of market rate.

While making a provision of Rs 600 lakh for the welfare of journalists, the chief minister has made a major announcement of giving matching grants to media managements so that they could pay salaries to journalists on par with wage board recommendations.

The government plans to draft a proper scheme in this regard.

He has also promised the media persons to cover them under comprehensive group insurance scheme, besides reviewing the existing pension scheme.

Media persons would now also get 50 per cent concession in bus travel.

A housing scheme is also in the offing.

The chief minister has said these schemes would also be made applicable to non-accredited journalists as well as village-based media persons.
