Industrialist Anil Salgaoncar passes away
GOANEWS & PTI, PANAJI | 01 January 2016 13:47 ISTGoa’s eminent industrialist and former MLA Anil Salgaoncar passed away today morning in Singapore.
He was 75.
Besides being one of the leading miner and supplier of earthmoving machinery of mining, he headed a group owning several business establishments throughout Goa.
Born on 26 December 1940, Salgaoncar had last week celebrated his 75th birthday in Singapore.
However, he suddenly fell ill soon after and even hospitalised while his family joined him in Singapore.
Known popularly as Anil-bab, he was the eldest son of late Vasudevrao Salgaoncar and brother of Shivanand and Dattaraj Salgaoncar.
Salgaoncar, known as a dashing and outspoken personality, was also active in politics.
After playing a behind-the-curtain role for several decades, he had successfully contested 2007 Assembly election from Sanvordem constituency.
As an independent MLA, Anilbab had defeated Vinay Tendulkar, the Goa BJP president today, by nearly 7000 votes.
His sons Sameer and Arjun are also active in politics.
He is survived by his wife Lakshmi and two married daughters – Chandana and Purnima – besides his sons.
No information regarding his funeral is available at this moment.

Can you really call him an eminent? They sucked blood from our motherland Goa!
Anil bab was very help full to needy persons.
He caused the Goa Govt. crores of rupees with the 'River princess' removal from the sea shore. It was his blunder and the cunning guy made Goa Govt. (people of Goa) pay for his misadventure. 'Maat pita, etc' all that so-called social service was aimed at his second son wining elections from Pernem somewhere which ultimately backfired not that they cared, the money spent was probably a drop in the ocean for the Salgaonkars.
