Goa Assembly condoles death of Ana & Bhave
GOANEWS DESK, PANAJI | 10 April 2013 14:25 ISTThe Goa Assembly today condoled death of Konkani writer Ana Mhambro as well as freedom fighter and social worker Damodar Bhiku Bhave.
The condolence motion was moved by St Andre MLA Vishnu Wagh.
Wagh recalled Ana’s great contribution to Konkani literature, terming it on the lines of P G Woodhouse, for his satirical writing without any malice.
He was not only honoured at national level with Sahitya Academy award and Kala Academy and Konkani Bhasha Mandal’s awards in Goa, but even Maharashtra government had honoured him with Maharashtra Bhushan, said Wagh.
Bhave was a simpleton social worker, he said, with artistic qualities in folk, drama as well as sculptors.
“I have never seen such a man these days who always moved with his dhoti and towel on his shoulder, even when he went for public functions to receive awards”, recalled Wagh.
Chief minister Manohar Parrikar and Valpoi MLA Vishwajeet Rane also told the memoirs of Bhave.
Meanwhile, Konkani Bhasha Mandal has also condoled the death of veteran writer Ana Mhambro.
Known for his humour and satire, Mhambro contributed greatly to Konkani literature, said KBM president Chetan Acharya.
Ana was never bitter and hence never left a bitter taste in the mouth of his readers. He had developed a deep insight into Goan character that he often portrayed in his writings, noted KBM secretary Anwesha Singbal.
Mhambro always stayed away from publicity and fame. Staying away from Goa in Mumbai didn’t deter him a least and he continued to contribute immensely to Konkani literature.
Konkani has lost a dedicated author today, said Acharya.
