EC from Delhi also tells Parrikar not to induct Alina
GOANEWS DESK, PANAJI | 07 May 2012 19:40 ISTThe Election Commission of India has finally directed Goa government not to induct Alina Saldanha in the cabinet “at this stage”, in case if she would be the candidate for Cortalim bye-election.
A complaint in this regard was made by social activist Adv Aires Rodrigues.
The local electoral office had thus immediately suggested the government to defer the decision while forwarding the complaint to the Commission in Delhi.
The whole Commission of three commissioners accordingly met at the ECI headquarters in the national capital accordingly.
Chief minister Manohar Parrikar had taken a tough stand on the issue stating that induction of a minister is the chief minister’s constitutional right and his prerogative and code of conduct cannot apply to it.
The ECI has fully agreed with the CM that cabinet induction is his constitutional right.
However, the ECI felt that it would not be proper ‘at this stage’ to induct the candidate as the minister, in case Alina would be the BJP candidate.
It would not provide level playing field for all the candidates, felt the ECI.
Has there even been a level playing field in elections. The ruling party always used the govt. machinery to get re-elected. Even their favourite police inspectors were posted prior to the elections in their constituency to help them win again.
Since the communications from ECI is just advisory Mr. Parrikar should go ahead with his plans .Let Aires go to Hell !
