Authorities fail to act against illegal mining: Sesa
PTI, PANAJI | 04 September 2010 17:32 ISTA senior official of a private mining firm today said various issues crop up while stalling the illegal mining trade in Goa.
Vedanta Resources-owned mining company Sesa Goa''s managing director P K Mukherjee claimed that whenever the authorities catch illegal cargo, there are issues in pursuing the matter and the due process required to bring the illegal ore dealers to book could not be followed.
He, however, did not elaborate.
Participating in a seminar on ''mining and human rights'' here, he claimed that companies like Sesa Goa are making several efforts to curb the illegal mining trade in the state.
Goa, which exports around 40 MT of ore, has been grappling with the issue of illegal mining. The state government figures reveal that the illegal mining industry is worth Rs 4000 crore.
Goa chief minister Digamber Kamat in the recently concluded assembly session had conceded to the illegal mining activity and said that there will be monitoring of all the iron ore that leaves the port.
These statements are just blinkers, you have'nt done anything for the state even more to say to preserve the Goan ecology, its resources and even the economic status of the state:All you politicians have plundered the mother earth the day you'll take over the seat of the state right from the very first day,its a shame for our generations to come to watch the huge craters left behind by the miners to wonder,oh those were mines the consequences of our mother raped by the so called chowgule, salgaocars, dempo, and the rest.yes the resouces which the state should enjoy rather than just a hand ful of famiies of miners. They got their ,sons/daughters married within themselves to contain the wealth and the goverment was always the pimp to reap the benefits without considering that goans have a future
.Now illegal mining has made its debute. this is the same lobby that financially supports all these elements in the name of economy which does'nt exist at all. what a sham
What is the difference between legal mining and illegal mining? The difference between the two is that the legal ming is done by obtaining permits by bribing the politicians and babus, where as the illegal mining is done without bribing these agencies but may be by bribing some other agencies! It does not make much difference to the common man who has to only suffer the brunt of both!
