AAP declares 4 candidates, including one in Parrikar's Panaji
GOANEWS DESK, PANAJI | 13 September 2016 13:45 ISTAam Aadmi Party has announced its first list of candidates, only four, for the Assembly election.
The prominent among them is Valmiki Naik, who would cross swords with BJP’s sitting MLA Siddharth Kuncalienker in Panaji.
The anti-corruption crusader of Goa right from the days of India Against Corruption would actually take head on defence minister Manohar Parrikar, the five-time MLA since 1994, who vacated the seat in November 2014 to take over as the country’s defence ministry.
The second prominent candidate is trade union leader Ajitsing Rane, who will contest from Maye.
Dr Oscar Rebello admitted that Rane has travelled from Congress to Shivsena to AAP, but said he has realised that only AAP can solve problems of the common man, which Rane fights for.
The third candidate comes from the tribal community, Molu Velip from Shiorda.
“Molu is a grassroot worker who has built a team from the scratch. AAP would always honour such honest workers”, said Adv Surel Tilve, a member of the screening committee.
The fourth candidate came from Velim in Salcete – Cruz Silva, the former Sarpanch and leader of fishermen.
Dr Rebello said the candidates are screened with the criterion like no criminal record, no communal record and no corruption record.
He also said that the names which came from the local volunteers were screened by the screening committee and then sent to the Delhi-based political affairs committee for final approval.
“Delhi leaders would continue to guide us, but the leadership of AAP Goa would emerge from among the people and elected to power by the Goans”, said Dr Rebello.
He also said AAP would continue the process of announcing names one by one, in stages.
AAP Manifesto has been prepared by Goans and all Goans concerns are taken care of. AAP is the first party in Indian History, who makes Manifesto as per Voters Suggestions. Goans has prepared their own Manifesto and AAP will implement it. If anyone has missed out, just write your issues and suggestions in Goa Dialogue and meet the AAP Manifesto Preparing Team and handover your issues & suggestions to them. Your voice will be heard. It is not AAP but Voters will decide what they want in Goa and what they don’t want in Goa.
Agreed that AAP has good intentions, but with a lot of opportunists. Agreed that the Congress and the BJP and the MGP and the ........have all failed the people of Goa. AAP's emotional approach seems to be good. Dr. Oscar, you have a good record, but are you certain the people you choose are really "THE" candidates, and that all your sevaks are indeed clean and will fight for Goans? Going by what is happening around the nation with individuals who have wrested power by using the AAP as a shield is quite baffling and disturbing.
As a foot note, how about prominent people from our beloved state, that have joined the AAP with a track record of using power and money to get away with the power of law....from parking cars in the middle of the road as an act of defiance, or for that matter even trying to hush an accident case involving kin-- You know very well what i am referring to. What about people who till a few days ago were chamchaas of the various ruling dispensations in the state and now resign to contest elections?
Kindly exclude these people publicly, and I am sure AAP will make a difference, if not what is different between the AAP and the congress and the BJP and the MGP and .......
Congress is going to get Zero Seat, same like in Delhi. Congress is going to lose in Goa, same like in other States. Congress will become like Communist Party. Before they ruled many states and now nowhere to be seen. Future elections will be straight fight between BJP and AAP only.
While abandoning AAP to join the Indian National Congress, Swati Kerkar who contested Lok Sabha elections on AAP candidatute said she was leaving the party because it gave no scope to her to participate in various anti-govt. dharnas and protests. A
Ajitsingh Rane is a leader whose main form of activism is to lead protest against the govt.
Perhaps AAP realised that supporting and participating in anti-govt. protests is a faster way to gain public prominence.
AAP should first clear their stand on our key burning issues 1. MOI. 2. MOPA 3.OFFICIAL LANGUAGE 4. CASINO 5. MINING 6. REGIONAL PLAN. Special status is a foregone issue, for which we have been cheated by Congress & BJP and they should be held fully responsible for looting Goa and Goans
Mr. Jack, this is the one place that AAP has lost it. I would agree that they have been very careful while drafting their Manifesto, however, could someone please let me me which Goans the AAP has found in Chimbel and in Birla, where they have promised them rehabilitation? Is the AAP going to take them to Delhi or rehabilitate them in Karnataka? Apparently AAP is following the gimmicks of the Congress and the BJP... making empty promises like that to the poor people and the Aam Aadmi. I was very upbeat about AAP, however, a lot of ground is being lost--- Apparently they are also promising Free Water and Free Electricity.? Where are they going to source this from?
It is better to be truthful and gain the respect of aam janta, rather than follow in the footsteps of the Congress and the BJP
