Fraud-facing Chetan pressurises GCA for his reinstatement

Drama unfolded at Goa Cricket Association's office near here today when a group of around 100 people allegedly forced its president Shekhar Salkar to 'reinstate' its ousted secretary Chetan Desai who is facing probe into a fraud case.
The group, led by Desai and former president Vinod Fadke, barged into GCA's office where Salkar was scheduled to address a press conference in the evening, and questioned ouster of Desai from the Managing Committee.
GCA had allowed only 64 out of 104 clubs to vote in the GCA's managing committee election to be held on June 28.
When contacted, Salkar told PTI: "I was forced to sign the documents reinstating Chetan Desai as secretary of the association by the mob. It was a group of hooligans. I could not do anything. Everything happened in front of the media."
He said GCA will soon file a formal complaint with police on the issue.
Salkar said Desai was being investigated along with others in connection with a fraud case of Rs 28 lakh.
However, Desai said all the 100 members of the group were actually officials of the clubs who were upset over GCA refusing them right to vote during the forthcoming polls.
"All club members were angry and they went to meet the president. There was no violence, everything went on smooth," he said, adding that "Salkar willingly gave in writing that he is reinstating me."
Desai and other former office-bearers of GCA are investigated for the alleged fraud.
According to the complaint filed earlier by GCA, an amount of Rs 28 lakh was withdrawn in financial year 2008-09 from GCA's accounts and showed it as a payment made on name of a Mumbai-based company Ha-Ko.
But GCA's inquiries with the Mumbai company revealed that they neither received any such amount nor billed it to the cricketing body.
The GCA had issued notice to Desai asking for the recovery of the amount as he was the signatory on the cheque along with Fadke.

THEN CAME THE 20 ODD MEMBERS OF AROUND 10 -15 CLUBS WHO STARTED SHOUTING SLOGANS BUT WERE VERY PEACEFUL. THEY ACTUALLY GHERAOED SALKAR AND PUT FORWARD THEIR DEMANDS WHICH WAS QUITE NORMAL.
BUT THE PROBLEM IS WHY GOONDAAS WERE NEEDED?
There is more cricket and boxing played off the field then on it in Goa. I wonder how Goan Authorities and cricket lovers in Goa are able to tolerate these blood suckers.
