Rs 24 lakh new notes seized at Calangute, 3 arrested
GOANEWS DESK, PANAJI | 14 December 2016 20:54 ISTCalangute police today seized new 2000 rupee notes of around Rs 24 lakh from a car and arrested 3 Goans.
They were supposed to exchange the new notes for old 500 rupee notes.
While exchanging the old notes at 30 per cent discount, the middlemen were getting two per cent commission.
Police have arrested Sushant Volvoikar, Shamsundar Palayekar and Ishant Korgaonkar.
The Calangute police headed by PI Jivba Dalvi laid down a trap after getting a tip off that a gang is travelling in a car with the new currency notes.
The accused claim that they are mere middlemen.
The police are thus probing further to reach out the gang operating in Goa.
The seized money would be handed over to the Income Tax department.

Keep an eagle eye watch on the Goa borders, many more coming to bribe voters. Thorough check on all vehicles including VIPs & Politicians due to new currency will come to bribe voters. Aam Aadmi are waiting in long queues for long hours and these corrupt people has so much money to bribe voters. Even this is the duty of all Goans to film them and send to the Social Media. Let us expose these corrupt people who bring new currency to bribe voters.
