Make Ruby collapse report public: Cong

Goa Congress today demanded that the state government should make public the inquiry report into the collapse of a building at Canacona taluka in January this year, in which more than 30 people were killed.

The Manohar Parrikar government had appointed a committee led by retired bureaucrat V K Jha to probe the reasons behind the building collapse.

The report was submitted to the state government last month.

"The state government is planning to alter the report to save some of the officers and even politicians indicted by the probe committee," Congress Goa unit spokesman Durgadas Kamat alleged while talking to reporters here today.

"We want that the report should be made public immediately," he said.

Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar had claimed during a recent media interaction that "he does not agree with few contents in the report," Kamat further alleged.

"Whoever is named in the report should be probed," he said.

On January 4, a five-storey under construction building in Canacona taluka had collapsed killing more than 30 people.

The Crime Branch, which was probing the incident, had arrested three government officials holding them responsible for the collapse.

Kamat pointed out that two government officials - Prashant Shirodkar and Pradip Naik - who were suspended following the building collapse, were recently reinstated in service, even as the inquiry into the incident was on.

"We demand that the state government should immediately suspend their reinstatement orders," he said.
